Annual Review
Providing meaningful performance feedback helps to guide your skill development and career. It also helps to improve the retention rate of great employees. That's why SMU has established a formal Annual Performance Review process. During the review period, a meeting between you and your supervisor will be scheduled to discuss your performance and plan for your future development.

What to expect when you meet
During this meeting, feedback from both you and your supervisor is encouraged and may be documented on the review form. Your supervisor will forward the original to the Department of Human Resources. Each of you should retain copies for your files.
Some Performance Review forms have been customized to better meet the goals of the division or school. Check the Human Resources website to locate the specific Performance Review form used by your department.
What to do prior to the review
Here are some things you should do prior to your review meeting:
- Complete your self-review. You may also review the online tutorial if needed. Check the Human Resources website for additional instructions.
- During the year, keep notes on what you have accomplished and ways that you have improved your skills. Also note areas where you wish to improve. Use these notes to help complete your self-review and refer to them in the review discussion.
