Main Menu
![]()
The Main Menu sits at the top of your screen, just above the content area, and consists of five buttons – one for each of the tutorial modules. You can click one of these buttons to go directly to the module that you want to start. The Main Menu button will turn red to indicate the module that you are currently in.
If this is your first time through however, we feel you will be best served by completing the tutorial sequentially and then coming back to those areas you would like to re-visit.
Menu Bar
The Menu Bar, located at the very top right of the screen, provides access to the following four features:
The first button is the Glossary, where you will find definitions to SMU terms. The FAQ provides answers to the questions new employees most frequently ask. Help offers an email address and a phone number to the SMU Customer Service Desk in case you require immediate assistance. The last button is Audio, which will allow you to turn the audio on or off.
Side Menu
The Side Menu, located on the left of the screen, allows you to navigate through a module on either a linear path or to a specific topic of your choice.
If this is your first time through however, we feel you will be best served by completing the tutorial sequentially and then coming back to those areas you would like to re-visit.
Clicking on a topic within a module will take you to that specific topic in the program. The Side Menu is highlighted according to the current module/ topic selected. Once you have selected a topic or screen in the Side Menu, the title of the screen and topic you are currently on turns red.
Main Content Area
The Main content area is located in the middle of the screen. It is where you will read most of the content and see images.
Adobe Acrobat PDF documents are used throughout this tutorial. To read them you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 installed on your computer. A free copy is available by clicking the image below.
If your browser uses a popup blocker, make sure you enable popups in order to launch the PDF documents contained in this lesson.
Helpful Links
Throughout the program you will be directed to Helpful Links to find documents or links to websites that contain important information.
Back and Next
You can navigate using the Back and Next buttons. The Back button moves you to the previous page and the Next button advances you to the next page.
Did You Know?
The “Did You Know?” content appears in two forms: either as a true or false question or as text fact. Both ways will give you additional information about SMU.
