Emotional intelligence, also known as EI, refers to the ability to perceive, evaluate and control your emotions as well as respond to the emotions of others.  Previously thought to be an innate characteristic, research suggests that emotional intelligence can be learned or increased through awareness and practice. 

Join us for this Quick Takes session to learn how to increase you perception and management of emotions in order to be more successful professionally and socially.

Project Management Series

       A project is a temporary effort undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives; usually with a 
 defined beginning and end date.  Project management involves planning, obtaining, organizing and
 managing the resources that will lead to successful completion of the project.

      The following three sessions may be taken independently of each other, however when taken together, will provide an general overview of Project Management from start to finish. 

Project Management 1: 
Getting the Project Started

March 2, 2011 12:00-1:00 p.m.

      Understand the real world challenges of getting a project started and learn how to:

  • Determine project drivers and if they will hold up to scrutiny

  • Capture project benefits/outcomes and goals/objectives

  • Secure champions and align stakeholders

       Concepts to be discussed include project request, benefits & ROI, ”bucket-sizing”, stakeholder analysis, role of project sponsor and project charters.

Project Management 2: 
Plan the Work

March 30, 2011 12:00-1:00 p.m.

        Review challenges of Scope, Time, Cost and Communication planning and learn how to:

  • Gain consensus on the work to be done

  • Obtain buy-in regarding the time frame for project completion

  • Determine the resources (people and other) necessary to complete the project

  • Negotiating on scope and time

        Concepts to be discussed include triple constraint, scope definition, work breakdown, scheduling and communication planning.

Project Management 3: 
Work the Plan

April 27, 2011 12:00-1:00 p.m.

      Learn Tools for Execution, Monitoring and Control of Project Outcomes and understand:

  • How to manage project status and developing problems

  • What to do when things get off track

  • Why it's important to keep stakeholders and sponsors informed on progress

       Concepts to be discussed include status reporting, issue logging, tollgate meetings and change boards.
