Hall Tour Ambassador (HTA)

The Hall Tour Ambassador position is a part-time, live-in position sponsored by the Department of Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) and the Division of Enrollment Services—Admissions Office. Primary responsibilities for this position include supporting the daily Residence Hall tours, SMU campus tours, and hosting prospective students overnight. Three Hall Tour Ambassadors are hired each nine-month academic year.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 SMU cumulative GPA
  • Full-time enrollment at SMU and attendance at SMU for at least one semester before appointment
  • In good standing with the University
  • Candidates are strongly encouraged to have lived in a residence hall for at least one semester prior to appointment
  • Demonstrate a passion for SMU community and an interest in welcoming prospective students to SMU
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Understanding of and a commitment to representing SMU and RLSH in a positive manner as an ambassador of the University

Duties & Responsibilities

The HTA is an integral part of the RLSH staff. Attendance and participation in specified and designated HTA & RLSH Student Staff Training sessions prior to each semester and Residence Life social gatherings are expected.

·         Lead residence hall tours Monday through Friday from 1-2 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Each HTA must not have classes or commitments scheduled during these times. Tours will rotate with other HTAs.

·         Keep residence hall room clean and tidy. This includes displaying SMU paraphernalia and RLSH publications.

·         Abide by all RLSH Community Standards, facilities guidelines, and fire standards.

·         Provide residence hall room, when needed, for photography and/or filming

·         Host overnight students of the same sex when assigned

·         Meet once a month with supervisor(s) or as requested

·         Communicate with hall staff and admissions office liaison on a regular basis

·         Participate in training and provide training on the residence halls to other tour guides

·         Work to facilitate tours and information sessions for Mustang Mondays and Mustang Days throughout the year
