Coming to SMU this fall as a first-year student? Congratulations! About 5-7 days after paying your SMU deposit, you will receive an email with instructions on how to log into the housing application system. You will enter your housing & dining preferences and complete related tasks for your housing application & contract. First-year students are required to live on-campus and are guaranteed housing, but you do need to complete the housing application & contract for assignment.
First-year students from Dallas who wish to live at home with a parent or guardian may request an exemption from the first-year housing requirement by completing the "Live at Home" request form. (The form is available by logging into the housing application website.) Decisions on exemptions are made by the Executive Director of Residence Life & Student Housing.
The end of Spring semester is around the corner. The halls will close at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. All residents must check out of their room with a staff member within 24 hours of their last final exam or by the officially closing time, whichever comes first. Graduating seniors are approved to remain in their assigned room until Sunday, May 13. Information meetings about closing are being held in all residence halls.
