Teaching Experience:
Powell taught middle and high school English, history, and philosophy in Houston for several years.  He was a co-founder and administrator of a charter school in Houston.  He also taught English in Oaxaca, Mexico at the college level, and taught U.S. History at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

Interests: 

His academic interests are broad and include early American history, Mexican history, Texas history, and transatlantic legal and constitutional history.
