Counseling and Psychiatric Services is located on the second floor of the Memorial Health Center. Services are available for currently enrolled SMU students and are free with the exception of some testing services. You need to fill out paperwork and come during set times daily to review this paperwork with clinicians in order to establish a first appointment. The paperwork can be downloaded below or you can pick it up at the Health Center. It will take about 30 minutes to complete and you will need to bring it with you.
Students will be seen on a first come, first serve basis once their paperwork is completed on:
Mondays through Friday 1:00-3:00 PM
After review of your paperwork, you and your mental health clinician will
discuss your treatment options. Community referrals will be provided if
that represents the most appropriate and best treatment. For those student
who become clients of CAPS, compliance with keeping appointments is essential;
thus, CAPS has the option to refer your care to clinicians in the community if
you repeatedly fail to show up or cancel (without appropriate reasons) for
appointments.
If you feel you are in crisis and need to be seen immediately, please come to the center during office hours (M-Fri 8:30-5:00) or call 214-768-2277 to reach the clinician on call.
