Genital Warts
•Caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
•Sexually active persons who have had > 3 partners or whose partners have had > 3 partners  have a 75 % chance of being infected with virus.
•Over 80% of sexually active students will contract and transmit HPV by the time they graduate from college.
Noted in Greek and Roman texts.

Different from common skin warts but look more or less the same.
Result from contact with infected skin or mucosa during sexual activity.

Certain subtypes common in young people associated with cancer of the cervix.  Premalignant/ malignant changes can be detected by routine Pap smears.

Virus may be shed even if no warts are visible.
