New Training Requirement for Students and Postdocs on Responsible Conduct of Research
In order to satisfy training requirements specified in the America Competes Act, SMU now requires that all postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students conducting research on a Federally funded project successfully complete on-line training on the Responsible Conduct of Research provided by the University. This requirement applies regardless of whether or not the student or postdoc is receiving salary from the project.Principal Investigators (PIs) will have the primary responsibility for insuring that students and postdocs working on their projects have successfully completed the required on-line training. PIs should provide the Office of Research Administration (ORA) the names of students and(or) postdocs who will be working on their Federally funded projects, and the ORA will inform the PI if they have met their training requirements.
Because this is a new requirement, postdocs and students currently conducting research will have until March 31, 2010, to complete the training requirement.
Postdocs and students beginning research after March 31, 2010, must complete the training requirement within 30 days of starting on a Federally funded project.
