The Godbey Lecture Series of Dedman College is an outreach program sponsored by Dedman College to introduce the Dallas community to many of SMU's outstanding faculty and to the exciting, scholarly research that takes place in the University. Most lecturers for the GLS are full-time SMU professors. Tax deductible membership fees go directly to the GLS Fund for Faculty Excellence, which provides financial assistance to Dedman College professors for research and professional development or to "Special Friends" scholarships, which support Dedman College students.

Although membership is required to participate in GLS tours, non-members as well as members are invited to register for GLS lectures. The Godbey Lecture Series offers a varied selection of lecture series each fall, spring, and summer semesters. These lectures are given at both on and off campus locations in the Park Cities area of Dallas. A series consists of three or four lectures under a single heading with an enrollment fee for each series. (Fees for nonmembers are a bit higher than those for members.).
