Similar to most organizations, recruitment is an essential aspect in fraternity life. It serves as a mutual selection process in which potential members learn about the chapters while the chapters are learning about the potential members. The SMU Greek community is dedicated to finding members who have outstanding leadership skills, high academic standards, and a commitment to service. Although each chapter has a different focus on these qualities, the values of leadership, service, and scholarship is at the forefront of any fraternity/sorority.
SMU Panhellenic adheres to the university policy of "deferred recruitment", which allows first-year students to participate in recruitment activities during the spring semester, rather than in the fall. Upperclassmen can participate in fall and spring recruitment if they meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
No matter which recruitment process you participate in, please keep an open mind and ask questions! It is important to understand the financial, time, and service commitments you may be making. Please utilize the council representatives and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life throughout your process.
