Center for the Environment

Welcome

Problems of sustainability and environmental quality are inherently multifaceted — and to solve them requires collaboration across disciplines. SMU, which has schools in Humanities and Sciences, the Arts, Engineering, Business, Education, Law and Theology, is an excellent place to find expertise in multiple fields pertaining to environmental challenges.

The Center’s goals are to:

  1. Provide credible analyses upon which to base decisions in the areas of energy, water, and transboundary environmental issues.
  2. Inform and educate current and future decision makers.
  3. Collaborate with public and private organizations.

The Center’s programs:

  1. Research grants to seed interdisciplinary projects guided by SMU faculty.
  2. 2009 Environmental Research Awards (APPLY HERE).
  3. Visiting Scholar presentations.
  4. Speakers
  5. Paid Undergraduate Internships.
  6. Support of Student and Faculty Environmental Programs

The SMU Center for the Environment was conceived out of a need to bring students and faculty from across the campus together to address society’s environmental needs. Moreover, SMU graduates who have been engaged in the pursuit of solutions to pressing societal problems will be prepared to continue their efforts through post-graduate education, the public sector, in government agencies, and via non-profit work.
