DES News
To DES Staff,
Thank
you to everyone who so considerately consoled me in the loss of my mother.
As a colleague said, "it is a series of moments which compounds the sadness
at this finality." I appreciate the gestures and kind words shared.
With
gratitude,

Mary Beard, Student
Employment
As a member of the SMU community and working as
Student Employment Coordinator, Mary is in a unique position to not only have
the opportunity to work with DISD students who are mentored by our own SMU
students, but is involved with multi-cultural issues as Chair of the Commission
on the Status of Racial Minorities. The Office of Community Involvement
creates opportunities for enriching lives and encourages commitment to youth in
the community who otherwise would not have the good fortune of being exposed to
the education and experience of gifted speakers and perceptive participants with
ideas that shape our society. The Office of Community Involvement is able
to provide several scholarships for the 38th Annual Women's Symposium to SMU and
DISD students who wish to attend due to the generous contributions of Sarah
Holland, SunTrust Education Loans and Robert Hogeda and Andrea Schrock of
LoanSTAR Educational Loans.

of the last US winner of the America's Cup gives a history of the Regatta.
Marilyn's husband continues to race the "C Scow". Marilyn has
opted to stay on shore to help with registration of over 100 sailors from as far
away as California, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
