Dr. Alastair Norcross is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he has just moved after five years at Rice University in Houston.  He previously taught at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he was the Easterwood Professor of Philosophy.  Before that, Dr. Norcross taught at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.  He earned his Ph.D. at Syracuse University and his B.A. in Classics from Oxford University. His research, which is primarily in ethical theory, is focused on the articulation and defense of consequentialist ethical theories such as utilitarianism.
