Workshop Descriptions 2009 - Registration is Open!
Extended Day Option (entering grades 1-7)
Extended Day is ideal for busy parents who need to bring their kids a little earlier in the morning and/or leave them a little later in the afternoon. The Extended Day option offers supervised activities and fun from 7:30 - 9 am and 4 - 5:30 pm and supervision through the lunch period, but students must be registered in classes for the entire day and bring their lunches. Extended Day costs $70 per week for morning and afternoon sessions. The cost is $40 per week should you choose morning only or afternoon only. Register for it just as you any other workshop.

Web-Page Design (entering grades 5-9)
Design, layout, and build web pages using Microsoft® Word, PowerPoint,
FrontPage, and HTML code. Using various options available for creating web
pages, students are challenged to use creativity as they design a web site
inserting appropriate graphics and text, using thematic backgrounds and colors
as well as creating links to other pages and web sites. Students also learn
steps needed to publish web creations in cyberspace.

Digital Photo Basics for the Shutterbug Set (entering grades 5-8)
Hands-on activities teach basic photography skills, including how to hold a
camera and set controls, the effects of light and color on pictures, and how to
download your shots onto a computer. A final project will include a slide show
of the students’ best works. No experience necessary. Bring a digital camera
with charged batteries and a blank CD to each class. Students can combine this
class with Pixel Pics Basics in Adobe Photoshop offered in the afternoon for a
full day of digital photography fun. Cost: $199

Use the challenging tools provided in Never Winter Nights software as you

Inventor's Tool Box (grades 1-3)

The mystery is taken out of writing as students learn techniques and formulas to
create paragraphs, essays, and reports. Guidance is given to assure writing
with correct grammar, appropriate structure, as well as clear and concise

Skills for School Success
Social Skills for Classroom Success (entering grades K-6)
Success in school requires both academic and social skills development. Using
fun interactive games balanced with direct instruction, this course prepares
students for the people skills needed at each grade level. Students learn the
importance of listening, classroom etiquette, managing peer relations,
developing friendships, approaching teachers, and self-advocacy in a nurturing

WorkSmart (entering grades 3-6)
Many very bright, curious children struggle in school due to a learning
difference called dyslexia. The biggest problem most students with dyslexia face
is not the learning difference itself, but the way they cope with it. WorkSmart
stimulates students to think about dyslexia and its implications with a positive
perspective. Issues such as self-esteem and self-advocacy are covered by
specially trained professionals to help students recognize their talents as well
as gain insight into the difficulties that can occur both in and out of the
classroom. Cost $199

Study Skills Strategies (entering grades 5-10)
Students develop strategies in organization, time management, consistent and
accurate homework completion, text reading, test preparation, test taking, paper
writing, and project development. Participants conclude the class with an
increased awareness of personal learning style and memory “tricks” to fit that
style. Each student develops an individual study-strategy resource binder for

Dyslexia Technology
Dyslexia Technology for Students (entering grades 5-8) new course
This four day workshop introduces students to Read and Write Gold software which
supports reading, written expression, and note taking skills within the
classroom setting. Also included will be stufy skills/test preparation skills
for the dyslexic student that can be used for independent study as well as the
most recent technology applications which support learning. Students enrolled in
this workshop must be able to type at least 25 words per minute. Cost $450
