Interventions to Augment Skeletal Muscle Mass and Bone Mineral Density

Presented by:  Dr. Joshua F. Yarrow

The University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida

Date: Friday, April 24th
Time:  3:00 – 4:00
Place:  The Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports, Classroom #1, main floor

Several common factors are implicated in the development and maintenance of skeletal muscle mass and bone mineral density, including sex-steroid interactions and mechanical loading, among others.  Overall, interventions that address common factors involved in the development and maintenance of skeletal muscle and bone mineral density may have both clinical and applied applications that include reducing impairment in aging and clinical populations with muscle-wasting diseases and bone loss, hastening recovery from musculoskeletal injury, attenuating loss of physical function following space flight, and even improving athletic or physical performance.
