
Mr. Robbins started his career with Southern Methodist University in 1964 as a student athlete. He was awarded a scholarship as a diver on the swimming and diving team. He was a three time All American diver. He graduated from SMU with a BA in 1968 and received his M.Ed. from the University Arkansas in 1971.
In 1969, Mr. Robbins was hired by SMU as an instructor in
Physical Education Department and Diving Coach . He taught a wide variety of
courses such as martial arts, yoga, weight training, racquetball and jogging.
Mr. Robbins earned a 7th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 3rd
degree black belt in Aikido and a teaching certificate in Aiki Ju Jutsu. He was
awarded Master Instructor in Karate in 2000. He has written four books on
various martial arts and has successfully led a martial art club for 30 years
for students and the Dallas community.
As the diving coach at SMU, he coached
NCAA national champions, USA national champions, World Champions and Olympians.
He was named the 1976 and 1980 USA Olympic Coach, 1975 and 1979 Pan American
Games Coach and 1975 World Aquatic Games Coach. Mr. Robbins quit coaching in
1980 to spend more time with his family.
Mr. Robbins retired from full time teaching in May of 2008 and was awarded the position of Professor Emeritus in August of 2008. He teaches part time in the Wellness Department. He also teaches a very popular power yoga class for Faculty and Staff for the Wellpower Program.
