If you are a Middle School math teacher, please join us for an exciting
opportunity to learn from experts in the field of
mathematics. In partnership with the University of Oregon, SMU is offering a
Mathematics Videoconference Series during the spring semester of 2009. The
five 2-day sessions are intended to expand and enhance teachers'
content knowledge for teaching pre-algebra and beyond. Each 2-day session is
held over a consecutive Friday and Saturday. The Friday classes meet from 6:00-8:00
p.m. (CST); the Saturday classes meet from 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. All of the
interactive videoconference sessions
are held at SMU but transmitted from the University of
Oregon. Teachers may elect to participate in the
workshops series for graduate credit (2 college credits) or for noncredit (CEUs).
This opportunity is sponsored by project DATA (Designing Algebra Teaching for Achievement), with support from the University of Oregon's College of Education, Center on Teaching and Learning, Behavioral Research & Teaching, and Department of Educational Leadership.

Participation Options (graduate college credit or noncredit)
Teachers may elect to participate in the videoconference series for graduate college credit (2 credits) or for noncredit (CEUs). Those who register for graduate credit MUST attend all 5 workshops in order to earn the 2 graduate credits that can be applied to SMU's Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree or Master Math Teacher (MMT) certification. Noncredit participants may register for any number of workshops they choose.
Tuition and Fees
All
credit and noncredit participants who elect to register for all 5 sessions of
the Series have the additional opportunity to participate in an SMU research
study. Involvement in this study offers a financial advantage to those who
register for noncredit; SMU will waive the full $250 enrollment fee for all
noncredit participants who participate in the research study. For information about the
research study, please contact the math research coordinator, Ms. Sherril
English, at 214-768-8402 or
