JoAnn Lan, Ed.D.
Director of Academic Computing & Associate Professor

A veteran in Educational Technology, Dr. Lan is Associate Professor and Executive Director for Academic Computing at SMU .  She has developed curriculum for instructional technology and taught graduate and undergraduate level courses at Southern Methodist University, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Northern Illinois University where she received an M.S. in Adult and Continuing Education and an Ed.D in Instructional Technology.  Her research focuses on the shift of paradigm in pedagogy in the information age, professional development, and teaching with the next generation network.  Her research interests are reflected in her publications that include numerous articles and book chapters.  She has authored and directed numerous grant projects including PT3 funded by US Department of Education.  She has been an active participant in national organizations and initiatives, including the Board of Directors of International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the National Advisory Board for PBS TeacherLine, the USDE National Technology Leadership Initiative, and chair of American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) Committee on Technology.  A native of Shanghai, China, Dr. Lan received a B.A. in English in China and taught for many years at Chinese universities.
