B.S., Teaching of Mathematics, University of Illinois, Urbana, 1972
M.S., Secondary Education Administration & Supervision, Univer. Ill., Urbana, 1976

After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana, Terry spent 32 years as a mathematics teacher and administrator in two suburban Chicago high schools. In addition to his work in schools, Terry has presented at local, state, national, and international mathematics conferences and was one of the founding editors of Texas Instruments’ graphing calculator newsletter EightySomething!.

After retiring from teaching in June, 2005, Terry continued to mentor student teachers of mathematics from Illinois State University until he relocated to Loveland, Colorado in August of 2007.  He started his work with Pre-AP Mathematics Workshops and has led numerous workshops in Math Vertical Teams, Functions, Problem Solving, Accumulation, and Analyzing & Describing Data.  During these years, Terry worked with Dr. Harvey Silver and John Brunsting to write the educational bestseller Math Tools, Grades 3-12: 64 Ways to Differentiate Instruction and Increase Student Engagement. Shortly after settling in Colorado, Terry served as the Secondary Math Instructional Coach for Fort Lupton Schools for the 2007-2008 school year.

Terry was first introduced to the ideas and instructional strategies of Thoughtful Education in the 1980s when he attended a week-long seminar on learning styles led by Dr. Harvey Silver. He recognized then that he could use Thoughtful Education tools and strategies to incorporate many of the ideas and principles from the NCTM Standards for Instruction and Assessment into his classrooms. Since then, Terry has worked with teachers of mathematics in many schools to share ways they can use learning styles to differentiate their instruction and help all students learn. Terry has also led numerous Thoughtful Education workshops on incorporating learning styles into mathematics instruction.

Since moving to Colorado, Terry has taken up fly fishing, continues to enjoy photography, and attempts to play golf.  Together, Terry, and his wife Sue, enjoy hiking the many stretches of mountainous terrain Colorado has to offer and visiting their three children in Fort Collins, Colorado; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
