Associate Dean Kathy Hargrove is the recipient of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented’s 2008 President’s Award. The award is given annually by the current president of the Association (TAGT) to the person s/he feels has made a strong contribution to gifted education in the state and who has been instrumental in mentoring and/or informing him/her in career development. The 2008 TAGT president Ann Studdard has selected Dr. Hargrove who inspired Dr. Studdard’s initial interest in gifted education and later taught her in graduate school.
This is Dr. Hargrove’s second TAGT award in her career as an educator. Dr. Hargrove’s first TAGT award was made in 1998 “In recognition of outstanding service and commitment to the education of Texas’ gifted children and youth.” Dr. Hargrove was president of TAGT in 1994 and received the “Outstanding Administrator” award from the Texas Academy of Math and Science (TAMS) at the University of North Texas in 2000.
