Admission Requirements
The Application Deadline for our 2012 Cohort is March 21,
2012.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution;
A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
Applicants not meeting this requirement must provide other qualifications,
such as long-term experience or expertise in a related specialized field as
justification for consideration for admission;
Scores from the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections of
the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), taken within the last five years.
To ensure that we receive your GRE scores, please use the institution code
7464 for the ACSSEHD.
For the GRE taken prior to August 1, 2011: Preferred scores
are 500 or higher for Quantitative Reasoning, 500 or higher for Verbal
Reasoning, and 4.5 or higher for Analytical Writing. For the GRE taken after August 1, 2011: Preferred scores
are 144 or higher for Quantitative Reasoning, 153 or higher for Verbal
Reasoning, and 4.5 or higher for Analytical Writing.
Note: GRE Scores will be
accepted after the application deadline date as long as the test is taken before the deadline. All
applicants are required to submit GRE Scores. Applicants whose scores fall
below the preferred scores may also provide
other qualifications, such as long-term experience or expertise in a related
specialized field as justification for consideration for admission;
Valid Texas teacher certification;
Two years teaching experience in an accredited public, private or
charter school;
Applicants from countries where the predominant language is not English
are required to supply scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
administered by the Educational Testing Service. The minimum score for
admission is an 83 on the internet based test;
Recommendations and evidence of a high degree of support from the school
of employment;
Evidence of leadership capacity and demonstration of leadership role in
the applicant's school.
Effective January 1, 2012, Texas law requires that all new students under the
age of 30 must provide documentation to the Health Center demonstrating that
they have been vaccinated against Bacterial Meningitis within the past 5 years
and prior to the 10th class day of their first term.
While applicants may request consideration for transfer of up to six hours of
graduate credit, please note that this is a cohort program with a tightly
structured and integrated design, and it is not likely that traditional 3-hour
courses will be accepted for transfer. Requests for transfer credit will
be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students need to submit a transfer
request as soon as they are accepted into the program in order to be considered.
Only courses with a grade of B or above can be transferred. Generally, no
credit will be allowed toward the Master's degree for courses taken more than
six years before acceptance into the program. Any exceptions to the
requirements and policies stated above must have the approval of the Dean of the
Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education & Human Development.
When is the application deadline? The program begins in July of each year. The application deadline is
March 21.
Applications submitted after the deadline will be held for the following cohort
if space is no longer available.
