Course description:   The course will survey the various elements and participants involved in conflict in educational settings from k through college and beyond.  Participants will explore the processes utilized to resolve conflicts in such areas.

 

Course prerequisites: None.

 

Required Textbooks & Materials

Manual.  To be picked up and paid for prior to first day of class at the Dispute Resolution Program Office, Suite 118, SMU in Legacy campus.

Grading Protocols

1.      Short paper  30%

Due:  August 21, 2009

2.      Major paper  60%

Due:  September 11, 2009

3.  Class participation: 10%

 

Grading Scale:

 

94-100 = A Exceptional

90-93 = A- Excellent

87-89 = B+ Outstanding

84-86 = B Good

80-83 = B- Adequate

77-79 = C+ Not Sufficient

LATE PAPER POLICY: Late papers are accepted only by pre-arrangement with the instructor.

 

ABSENCES:  One (1) absence will not affect your grade.  Further absences will each lower your grade by five (5) points.  Students should contact and inform the Instructor as soon as possible regarding any absences.

 

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:  Be prepared, attend class and participate in class discussions and activities.
