The SMU Certificate Program in Financial Planning combines expert Instructors, CFP-Board registered curriculum, flexible course schedules, and a "Pacesetter Path" to provide the premier Financial Planning educational program in North Texas. In less than one year, complete the required coursework towards obtaining the prestigious CFP® certification, and earn a certificate in Financial Planning from SMU.

In fact, for several years now, Jobs Rated Almanac has named financial planning as one of the top-rated jobs in America. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts faster-than-average growth for financial planners as a better-educated, wealthier and longer-living population requires more investment advice and financial guidance. Choose a
starting date. Students may join the SMU Program in January, April or September.
Choose a pacing option.
Beginning each January at the SMU-in-Plano campus is the Intensive Path: Seven, six-week courses which meet twice weekly over nine months
Beginning in April and September at the main campus in Dallas is the Traditional Path (one course per quarter) and the Pacesetter Path (two courses per quarter)
Enroll in an Information Session. Offered throughout the year, these 1-hour sessions are packed with information about the SMU Program and the CFP® certification process.

Register for class. Students may enroll online after application has been processed, via phone, or via fax. Traditional Track students begin the program with Course 101; Pacesetter Path students begin with 101 and 103.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP (with flame logo)®, which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.
SMU does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and
. CFP certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
