
Dr. Byron Law-Yone is a
medical graduate of the Institute of Medicine in Rangoon, Burma. Prior to his
career in the United States, he obtained his psychiatric training in the United
Kingdom where he also served as a consultant psychiatrist in several regional
psychiatric hospitals and participated in research involving the drug treatment
of schizophrenia. His interest in the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders led
to research and publications in the fields of schizophrenia, depression,
addiction medicine, and pain management, and he has held teaching appointments
at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the University of Texas,
Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Dr. Law-Yone moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1988 after his appointment as Medical
Director of Adult Psychiatry at Taylor Manor Hospital in Ellicott City,
Maryland. He has served as Medical Director of Brookhaven Psychiatric Pavilion
and Medical Director of Addiction Medicine programs, first at Green Oaks
Psychiatric Hospital and later at Baylor Richardson Regional Medical Center.
He is on the speaker's bureau for several pharmaceutical companies and is a
member of the Scientific Advisory Board of a pharmaceutical company engaged in
developing medications for the treatment of pain and addictive disorders located
in Vancouver, British Columbia.
He is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a diplomate of
the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with added qualifications in
Addiction Psychiatry. Other qualifications include a Diploma in Psychological
Medicine, Royal College of Physicians, London, England, and Member, Royal
College of Psychiatrists, London, England.
He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society,
North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, American Psychiatric Association
and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. He is included in “D
Magazine’s” annual list of Best Doctors in Dallas (2007). Dr. Law-Yone is
married and has two daughters. He enjoys music, painting, photography and an
occasional round of golf.
