Robert C. Berg, Ed.D., Professor Emeritus of Counseling, first joined the SMU faculty as an adjunct professor in 2007.
After a 38-year career as a counselor educator at the University of North Texas,
Berg retired from fulltime teaching and joined SMU as a part time instructor.
2011 marks the 50th consecutive year that Berg has been teaching and
supervising.
During his career, Berg has authored or co-authored seven books including Group
Counseling: Concepts and Procedures currently in its fourth edition. He has also
produced over 40 professional articles.
In addition to maintaining a limited private practice and leading therapy
groups, Berg has consulted with a variety of organizations including American
Airlines, the Chicago Board of Education, the New Orleans Saints football team,
Braniff Airways, the Federal Aviation Administration in addition to numerous
school districts in Texas.
A charter member of the Association for Specialists in Group Work, Dr. Berg has
been a career long member of the American Counseling Association, the American
Psychological Association, the Texas Counseling Association and Phi Delta Kappa.
In 2008 Berg was the subject of an article in the Journal of Professional
Counseling. Written by two of his former doctoral students, the article looked
back at his career as a counselor educator. Berg also served as chair of over 30
doctoral committees.
