The Center's Group Counseling services include parent education groups (e.g., Filial Therapy, Positive Discipline), teen groups, activity groups (i.e., for children between the ages of 9-12), and play therapy groups (i.e., for children ages 3-8) for varied concerns and topics.
The SMU Center for Family Counseling is starting some new therapy groups available for the community:
1) Step-parenting group (for step-parents to discuss the successful blending of families, as well as other parenting issues.)
2) Transgender support group (to assist members in defining their individual gender identity expression-to be held at the Resource Center of Dallas.)
3) Stress management group (where participants learn techniques to work on managing stress more effectively.)
4) Grief and loss children's group (specifically for children 9 or 10 years of age who are dealing with the loss of a parent.)
If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please call 972-473-3456 for more information.
