in his short tenure and has reestablished EDS market position in
the information technology industry the company founded 40 years ago.
He has been in the telecommunications industry for more than 28 years,
holding a number of executive-level positions, including chief executive
of Cable & Wireless, president and CEO of Illinois Bell and executive

the SMU Board of Trustees since 2000.
Interactive network technologies
have driven major changes in all aspects of human life, said Hart
eCenter Director Peter Raad. Our ability to manage these changes
will determine the extent to which we can extract maximum benefit from
evolving technologies while preserving the integrity of our humanity and
traditions. Dick Brown is a great agent of change and has demonstrated
by his leadership how an enterprise can change its processes while holding
true to its ethos. We are truly honored to have Mr. Brown present the
inaugural CEO Forum for the Hart eCenter and to speak on such a timely
and significant topic.
The Hart eCenter at SMU, established
by a gift from Linda and Mitch Hart, was formed to foster cross-disciplinary
and collaborative activities related to the development and use of interactive
network technologies such as the Internet, wireless networks and mobile
computing. It also is dedicated to understanding the implications of evolving
technologies on global society. It is the only universitywide center of
its kind at a major research university. Mitch Hart is a co-founder of
EDS and also is an SMU trustee. Linda W. Hart is a graduate of SMUs
Dedman School of Law.
