  • Geothermal Lab Project Specialist
  • Background 

    Cathy Chickering is a Project Specialist in the SMU Geothermal Laboratory. Her primary responsibility is project management of a 3 year, multi-million dollar grant with the Department of Energy to aggregate geothermal data and publications from 7 different institutions into the National Geothermal Data System (NGDS). Cathy also assists Maria Richards in coordinating SMU’s conference on Geothermal Energy Utilization Associated with Oil and Gas Development. Other responsibilities include budgeting, procurement, reporting, and editing.

    Previous work experiences include over 9 years with IBM as an Advisory Marketing Representative specialized in wide area networking, computer and network outsourcing, and electronic data interchange. Cathy has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Texas A&M University.

    The SMU Geothermal Lab has been in existence for over 40 years. The Director is Dr. David Blackwell with four staff, one postdoc, eight graduate students and three undergraduate students working on a variety of geothermal resource projects.

    Networking Focus/Needs
    Interested in understanding the necessary steps for how to further geothermal energy production as a viable extension of the life cycle of an oil or gas operation. Also interested in understanding what role the SMU Geothermal Lab can play in assisting organizations in furthering specific projects.
