Services for Persons with Disabilities

Southern Methodist University is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible campus for students, faculty, staff and visitors with disabilities. The President's Advisory Committee on the Needs of Persons with Disabilities (PACNPD) was established to support this effort and make annual recommendations to the University President.

Students should contact the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities for questions and concerns. Faculty, staff, and visitors can address questions to the Office of Institutional Access and Equity. Website accessibility issues should be directed to the Director of E-Marketing.

EXTRA MILE AWARDS for Faculty 2008

A Listen Technology portable assisted listening device is available for student, faculty, and staff use on campus.  It is perfect for tour groups on campus as well. The system allows the speaker to wear a portable headset that transmits the signal to people wearing the receivers.  contact Shawn Remek to inquire about using the system.  Shawn’s number is 8-4419. There is no charge for usage.

Disability Accommodations and Success Strategies
On-Campus Evaluation for Learning Disabilities & AD/HD Provides counseling and learning disability testing for SMU students as well as national and professional testing services for the community.
Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) Provides academic assistance for SMU undergraduates with documented learning disabilities or AD/HD.

Office of Institutional Access & Equity
Oversees the University's compliance with disability laws, provides resources for reasonably accommodating employees, and investigates complaints of discrimination.
