APT is a collaborative effort between SMU’s Dedman College and UT-Southwestern Medical Center. Upon completing your degree from Dedman College, you could be one of three SMU students admitted to the Master’s program annually; other APT students are eligible on a competitive basis. You can major in any area within Dedman College (B.S. or B.A. degree) and are required to take specified courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and psychology.

Faculty
Professors throughout Dedman College are very encouraging and attentive, helping you excel on the path to a career in physical therapy. Many conduct significant research, and you will have abundant opportunities to work alongside them. Disciplines include biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and psychology.
Internships & Study Abroad
You will spend two summers (paid or unpaid) as an intern at a physical therapy clinic, at a site approved by the APT program.
If you plan carefully, you will have the chance to expand your world views by participating in the SMU Study Abroad Program. Choose from yearlong, semester, or summer programs at locations around the world. APT candidates will especially benefit from SMU-in-Copenhagen, which touches on health care issues.
