Checklist for New Evening Studies

  • Obtain a Student ID card and a parking permit. To obtain these essentials, please visit the Park & Pony Office on the first floor of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center (Building #36 on the SMU campus map). You may also access the Park & Pony website

The ID indicates the permanent student identification number. The ID card is used for meals, health center services, cashing checks, Pony Express debit accounts, admittance to athletic events and Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports, residence hall access and library privileges. For more information regarding these services, please visit the Campus Essentials website

  • Check the accuracy of your personal information on Access.SMU. Access.SMU is a self-service system in which students enroll/drop classes, view the schedule of classes, view grades, view and request transcripts and degree progress reports, view financial aid and student account information, and update/verify personal portfolio—addresses, phone numbers, emergency contact and demographic summary.

If you have not all ready done so, it is very important that you go on-line under your Personal Portfolio and check the accuracy of this information. If this information is not verified in a timely manner, a hold may be placed on your account for any future enrollment terms at SMU.

  • Make an appointment with your advisor. Evening Studies students are urged to meet with their academic advisor prior to enrolling for a term for assistance in scheduling courses that will count toward their graduation requirements. After the initial advising session, students are encouraged to seek assistance from their academic advisor when considering adding and dropping courses. Students have the final responsibility for the accuracy of their enrollment, the applicability of their courses towards their degree requirements, and their academic performance.

To schedule an appointment with your advisor, please contact the Dedman College Records Office at 214-768-2298.

  • Check Access SMU for your enrollment appointment time and any service indicators (holds) which need to be cleared prior to your enrollment.

  • Check Access SMU for course availability by using Class Search. For a listing of courses in the General Education Curriculum, visit the Registrar's web site

Evening Studies courses will have "restricted seats" to be claimed by evening studies students.

  • Enroll in your classes. You may enroll from any web-based computer. Computers are available for you to use in the Self Service Area, Room 102 Blanton Building, the home of the Division of Enrollment Services. For web registration instructions, please visit the Registrar's web site.

  • Make tuition and fee payments. You will be sent an invoice, by mail or email depending on when you enroll. Be sure to update your billing address, and check your SMU campus email on a regular basis. You may also view your account on-line.

Please pay your invoice on or before the payment due date. Students whose accounts are not cleared by the deadline may have their class registration cancelled. Payment can be made on-line. For further information on payment due dates, please refer to the Bursar's web site.

  • Purchase your textbooks. The SMU Bookstore is located in the Park Cities Plaza Shopping Center, 3060 Mockingbird Lane (next to La Madeleine). You may also contact the bookstore at (214) 768-2435. Please visit the SMU Bookstore’s website to receive more information about store hours, ordering textbooks on-line, and reserving textbooks.

  • Check your SMU email account. You have all ready received a letter with your email account and password. The University uses the student’s email account as the official means of communication for notification of deadlines and other important announcements. Please review the Registrar's Home Page for more detailed information.
