The SMU Department of Statistical Science is nationally recognized for producing interdisciplinary-trained graduates who know how to identify patterns and make informed decisions across a number of diverse applications.

Our distinguished faculty includes consultants who provide keen insight into the latest statistical developments in many fields as well as graduate studies. All are actively involved in research, some of which is funded by the Department of Energy and Office of Naval Research. The department also boasts hands-on training, tempered with strong theoretical grounding. Our computer facilities feature high-tech workstations and access to national supercomputer centers. Graduate students enjoy a faculty-to-student ratio of 1:3 and have a valuable opportunity to assist at the Center for Statistical Consulting, which provides consulting services to various businesses.
