We offer undergraduate programs in geology, environmental geology, and geophysics. Graduate programs encompass seismology, aqueous geochemistry, paleontology, geothermal sciences, and stable isotope chemistry. Given that research is a major component of studies, the department boasts some of the nation’s premier field and campus laboratory facilities. These include Shuler Museum of Paleontology, Lajitas Experimental Seismic Research Station near Big Bend, Texas, and the Electron Microprobe Laboratory.
Faculty members are easily accessible and have many connections to the extensive Dallas geological community; their well-funded research in such areas as planetary geology is consistently exciting, with opportunities for students to assist in work across the Southwest and around the country. Upper division classes are typically only 5-10 students to ensure optimum personal attention.
