economics

In this rapidly changing global marketplace, the Department of Economics
at SMU is exceptionally equipped to address a wide range of relevant concentrations:
international economics and trade, monetary policy, financial economics, econometrics,
labor economics, public finance, and industrial organization.

Four different degree plans are offered to students. Economics is so flexible a major that you’ll find it easy to combine with other disciplines for a double major. Numerous internships are available, and students can get involved with a very active Economics Club that sponsors dinner discussions on economics issues and visits to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Faculty members are focused on excellence in teaching. They involve students in research on such subjects as financial market volatility. The department is consistently ranked among the top economic departments in the nation.
