First-Semester Planning
Before enrolling in your first semester of college with your academic adviser, you should consider the following items and keep track of your questions and plans to discuss with your adviser:
- Work through Interesting Courses and
bring your highlights to share with your adviser.
- Print out What's my First Course to see what classes lead into your
potential major. You will take these classes during your first three
semesters.
- Read about your potential majors in the SMU Catalog: Look at classes
required and GPA required for admission to the major, look at course
descriptions of courses within the major to see if those are the types of
courses that appeal to you.
- Consider your most probable course placement in Math, English, Foreign
Language as well as any other relevant subjects by considering Dual/Concurrent
Credit, AP and /or IB scores, and consider possible placement tests available.
Plan to take English Rhetoric and Math unless you have already have credit for
those.
- Do not plan your fall schedule! Do not worry about knowing everything. Do come prepared to discuss potential directions and potential classes with your academic adviser.
