What Happens at AARO?
Below we have described the basic Academic Advising chain of events at AARO. We look forward to meeting you and your parents in July.
On the first day of AARO, you and your parents, along with other students in your group, will have a 45-minute meeting with your assigned adviser. This group meeting will cover the adviser/student relationship and general information you will need to know in order to prepare for your advising meeting that afternoon or the following day. Your parents will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have as they will not attend your individual advising session. Your adviser will schedule your individual advising session at this meeting.
The 45-minute individual advising session will be for the student and adviser only. Parents are asked not to attend this meeting. Here the adviser will look over your file and discuss briefly any academic goals that you may have, for instance what you would like to major in, any classes that are of significant interest to you, what courses are required to declare your desired major. Together you and the adviser will fill out an enrollment request form designating the specific courses that you will take for the fall semester.
You will proceed down the hall to the computer room where a representative from Enrollment Services will show you how to use ACCESS, the online registration service. You will enroll for fall classes and then register for the desired campus essentials, i.e., fall meal plan, yearbook, campus newspaper, and Meadows vouchers. You will be given a copy of your fall enrollment schedule with which you can buy your textbooks.
