Position Information:
The Alumni Data Manager in the Office of Alumni Giving and Relations works
closely with the Executive Director and Directors of Alumni Giving and
Relations, and in collaboration with the Development Management Systems (DMS)
team, to provide key analytical support for marketing plans, strategic outreach
programs, and tactical fundraising decisions.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Produce and execute large-scale production-ready solicitation data files for
use in mailings, telemarketing, and email campaigns;
Develop analytical models to segment audience groups, forecast productivity
and revenue goals, and program performance metrics;
Develop and report on alumni giving participation goals in support of the
University’s major fundraising initiative,
SMU Unbridled, The Second Century
Campaign;
Author regular and ad-hoc performance and prospect reports;
Develop methodologies for identifying new fundraising segmentations and
opportunities;
Work closely with colleagues in DMS to guide and inform ongoing improvements
to the data quality and structure of the Development CRM software used,
BBEC;
Provide training and support to the department in the use of available data
tools, particularly BBEC Query, MS Excel, and MS Access
And other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of professional work experience is required OR a high school diploma with a minimum of five years of professional work experience is required. Experience that includes at least one year in advanced data analysis and reporting is also required. BBA or other business focused degree preferred. Formal education or training in quantitative skills and database systems is highly desired. Experience working with a relational database is preferred. Experience that includes working in a deadline-driven fast-paced team environment is a plus. Experience creating reports on financials, sales and/or marketing performance for consumption by non-technical staff and/or leadership is desired. Experience that includes advanced data analysis in a non-profit or in higher education is preferred. Work experience with a non-profit and/or in higher education is desired.Candidate must possess strong organizational and project management skills to effectively prioritize and achieve deadlines on multiple projects. Must also possess strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to think collaboratively, strategically and creatively while participating in senior level decision making.
Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment. A strong focus on attention to detail and accuracy is essential as this position will provide data files that will be used for communication and outreach to constituents of the University.\
Candidate must possess strong leadership skills and must be an insightful, articulate, accomplished and persuasive leader who is committed to the support of advancement. This position requires advanced quantitative skills and database systems knowledge, with strong expertise in advance MS Excel techniques (nested IF statements, logical controls (AND, OR, NOT), database functions, lookup functions, and text manipulation.
Knowledge of SQL and experience with MS Access is preferred. Experience or knowledge of Blackbaud Enterprise System is a plus.
