The Assistant Athletics Director for Development in the Office of
Development and Alumni Affairs will be responsible for developing and
managing the major gifts, planned-giving and annual giving programs
targeted to donors with an affinity for athletics programs and
initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising and collaborating with the Director of Development, Capital Projects for Athletics to identify, cultivate, and solicit a top tier of donors who have the means and the interest to support The Second Century Campaign initiatives with gifts in excess of $25,000;

Working closely with the Athletic Director and the Athletics Department
Senior Staff, including Varsity Coaching Staff, the Vice President of
Development and External Affairs, Associate Vice President, Directors of
Development, and other campus leadership to plan and coordinate the
cultivation and solicitation activity of prospects with regard for overall
development initiatives and priorities of the Athletics Department;

Providing leadership and oversight in developing the capital projects
agenda and timeline including orchestrating volunteer involvement through
campaign committees that will plan the events, fundraising and stewardship
as appropriate for athletics development initiatives;

Coordinating with the AVP and the Director of Development Research and
Prospect Management regarding the prospect identification, assignment, and
management processes and systems;

Overseeing the strategy, goal-setting and execution of a robust Annual
Giving effort within Athletics via Mustang Club and Friends of programs and
membership drives and associated promotions, this includes collaborating
closely with the AVP for Development and Alumni Affairs, the Executive
Director of Annual Giving, the Varsity Coaching Staff, and the Director of
the Mustang Club to set benchmarking goals and metrics, develop appropriate
direct mail vehicles, supervising and facilitating intensive telemarketing
campaigns, and developing appropriate programming for a large audience of
supporters during the national campaign;

Overseeing the growth and development of the Planned Giving area of the
Athletics Department, including the Cash Birdwell program; and

The Assistant Athletics Director for Development will lead and manage seven
professional staff members and is responsible for all levels of management
within the department, providing leadership and direction to staff,
including but not limited to hiring, evaluating, reviewing and dismissing
staff, prioritizing staff responsibilities and assignments, and developing
and monitoring the departmental budget.
Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal
skills with a strong customer service orientation. Must
demonstrate commitment to the support of advancement and
athletics.
Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational and problem
solving skills with the ability to think collaboratively,
strategically and creatively while participating in senior-level
decision-making. Must also demonstrate ability to provide focus
and motivation to expert professional staff in a goal-driven,
fast-paced and changing environment.
College or university development experience working with alumni
and parents preferable; experience in the athletics field
strongly desired. Experience working with volunteers on a
national basis and/or coordinating a national sales force is a
plus.
Experience in devising successful mass marketing strategies and
events preferable. Knowledge of sales management or fundraising
management principles desired.
