The debate over whether or not SMU should be host to the Bush Presidential Library, accompanied also by a museum and institute, has created controversy on campus. Faculty members have not fully agreed on the issue, and some have been more open to other to voice their opinions as to where they stand in regards to such a highly sought institution coming to SMU.

But what about the students? What exactly do they think? Better yet, how much do they actually know? As it turns out, their knowledge of the whole ordeal is somewhat less than impressive. In fact, a lot of SMU students are not even aware of the fact that what will be brought to campus is composed of three parts. They also seem to be rather clueless as to how for sure it is that SMU is actually getting the Bush Library, nor do they know where exactly it will be located.

Students have had the opportunity to be at least halfway informed, be it through campus media, such as The Daily Campus, The Daily Data, SMU TV and other student media outlets, or they could choose to follow coverage of local and some national press over the controversial issue. The Bush Library is projected to go where the SMU bookstore is currently located. Further controversies have been brought up because of the size of the institutional building, and many residents near campus are being forced out of their homes so that the new place can be built.

Continuing debates and disagreements are likely to progress, and students may soon find themselves in the midst of a mess about which they know too little. Perhaps now is the best time to get informed, especially if students want to take a stance and voice their opinions on the matter.
