Fondren Library Center displays archival images, graphics, and memorabilia depicting SMU milestones over the past ten decades, with an emphasis on celebrations of the twentieth, twenty-fifth, fiftieth, and seventy-fifth anniversaries of the university.
Featured are a set of cartoons by Bill McClanahan (1907-1981), a writer and sports cartoonist for the Dallas Morning News known as "the father of Southwest Conference cartoon mascots." He created the set of limited edition cartoons depicting the history of SMU in celebration of the University’s 50th Anniversary. Entitled The First Fifty, the sets were provided compliments of the SMU Alumni Association.
The Fondren Exhibits Committee is charged with providing educational exhibits for the SMU community that showcase special events, academic areas and individuals associated with the SMU campus.
