How to Obtain Your Library Card

• SMU Alumni Cards may be obtained online or in person at the Circulation Desk.
• Colophon/Friends of the Library cards may be obtained online or in person at the Circulation Desk.
• All other cards must be obtained in person at the Circulation Desk

Checking Out Materials

You must present your library card at the Circulation Desk to check out materials. It is your responsibility to:

• Know the due date for when material is to be returned.
• Return or renew material before the due date.
• Exercise care in the handling of library materials.

Reviewing Your Library Account

Use the Library Catalog's "My Account" feature to review what materials you have checked out, renew materials, and view any overdue fines.

Books

• 3 weeks

Renewals

• Undergraduate and Public Library TexShare borrowers: 1 renewal
• Other TexShare borrowers and all other Visitors: 5 renewals
• Borrowers may renew if there are no holds or recalls on the item. Renewals may be made online.
• Browsing books are not renewable.
• Guest borrowers are not eligible to place holds or recalls on materials.

Maximum Number of Book Items

• Undergraduate and Public Library TexShare borrowers: 5 items
• Other TexShare borrowers and all other Visitors: 10 items

Overdue Fines

• $1.00/day

DVD / Video

Loan Periods

• Regular: 3 days, no renewals
• Limited Access: 4 hours, in-library use only

Maximum Number of Media Items

• 1 item

• $5.00/day

All Other Library Materials

Guest borrowers are not eligible to check out other items, but are welcome to use them in-house.

Lost Items

If library materials are not returned, the following lost item charges will apply:

• Books and Periodicals: $90
  • $15.00 maximum overdue fines
  • $25.00 processing fee
  • $50.00 lost replacement
• Media: $85
  • $30.00 maximum overdue fines
  • $25.00 processing fee
  • $30.00 lost replacement
• Media Limited Access: $250
  • $30.00 maximum overdue fines
  • $25.00 processing fee
  • $195.00 lost replacement

Circulation Blocks

A suspension of library circulation privileges will occur, if any of these situations apply to your account:

• 1 overdue recall
• $20.00 or more in fines/fees
• Expired, lost, or stolen library card
