Audiovisual Center and Information Commons
The Audiovisual Center
The Audiovisual Center is where recordings (LPs, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, laserdiscs, and CD-ROMS) are located, computer stations (PCs and Macs), audio stations including turntables, cassette decks and CD players, and two video stations including VCR, DVD, and laserdisc players.
The center also has two fully equipped AV group study rooms. These rooms offer a space for groups of students and/or faculty and staff to meet together. Each room has soundproofing and may be reserved in advance or checked out at the AV desk.
The collections span the literature of western art and music from ancient times to the present, popular and ethnic sound recordings, and videos of dance, opera, and theater arts.
The center houses all microform holdings of the Hamon Arts Library and has a microfilm and microfiche reader/scanner/printer available.
Reserves
Faculty may request that audiovisual materials be placed on reserve. Such requests should be made at the Audiovisual circulation window. Reserve materials are restricted to two hour in-house use only.
Other Audiovisual Resources
In addition to the Audiovisual Center, SMU provides instructional technology service in the arts in two other locations: the Center for Instructional Technology in the Arts (CITA) and the Norwick Center for Digital Services (NCDS). CITA is located adjacent to the Audiovisual Center on the basement floor of the Hamon Arts Library and provides computing resources for the fine and performing arts. For technical questions related to CITA, contact the lab’s Computer Operations Manager at 214.768.4379 or at jasonw@mail.smu.edu. NCDS is located in the Information Commons in Fondren Library East and provides a wide range of technology services, including the Student Multimedia Center.
