Access for Persons with Disabilities
An elevator provides access to all floors of the library. Wheelchair-accessible computers are available for use of electronic resources.
Individual assistance needed to access other materials is available upon request.
Food, Drink, and Tobacco
Food and
Tobacco are not allowed in the Hamon Library. Drinks are allowed in closed
or covered containers only.
Information Desk
For assistance with library research and general information, visit the Information Desk in the first-floor lobby of the library.
If it is unstaffed, please request assistance at the Print Circulation Desk or the Audiovisual Service Window.
Print Circulation Desk
Circulating print materials, including print reserves, are checked out at the Print Circulation Desk in the first-floor lobby area.
(Exception: reserve scores intended for use with recordings are housed in the Audiovisual Center.)

The Hamon Audiovisual Center is located on
the basement level. Its 30 computer stations, 2 audio and 2 video stations
offer patrons access to the entire collection of audio, video and multimedia
materials as well as access to the internet to further expand research
capability. The Audiovisual Center also houses the microform holdings of the Hamon Arts Library. Equipment is available for viewing and printing both
microfilm and microfiche.
To access
audiovisual materials, bring call numbers to the Audiovisual Service Window.
Keys for the group study rooms on the basement level are also checked out from
the Service Window for a two-hour period.
Jerry Bywaters Special Collections Wing
The Bywaters Special Collections Wing includes a research room, collection storage vault, exhibition preparation room, cataloging room, and administrative offices.
Access to the collections is by appointment only. For scheduling, contact
Sam Ratcliffe, Head of Special Collections, at (214) 768-2303 or
Ellen Buie Niewyk, Curator, at (214) 768-1859.
Mildred Hawn Exhibition Gallery
The Hawn Exhibition Gallery, located on the first floor of the library, houses a variety of exhibits drawn from the Jerry Bywaters Special Collections, the Meadows School of the Arts, and the local community.

Mildred Hawn Meeting Room
The Mildred Hawn Conference Room, located on the
first floor, has conference seating for 14 and can accommodate up to 50 in
theatre-style seating. It is equipped with a projection screen and
Internet access. This room is available to SMU faculty and staff by
reservation; call 214-768-3814.
Computer Lab
The Center for Instructional Technology in the Arts is housed in the Hamon Library basement.
Supporting the Meadows School of the Arts, it is under the management of Information Technology Services.
It is open for use by the SMU community when not in use for scheduled classes.
Lab hours are the same as those for
library
circulation. For more information, contact

Library Offices
Offices for the Hamon's director, subject librarians, and administrative assistant are adjacent to the Reference Room on the
first floor. Offices for other full-time staff are located in their respective work areas.
After-Hours Depository
An after-hours depository slot is located on the exterior wall of the library, near the Hillcrest entrance to the building.
Photocopying
Self-service copy rooms are located on floors 1, 2, and 3. The first-floor room contains a change machine and a copy card vending machine.
Copiers on each floor will accept coins, bills, or copy cards. All of this equipment is maintained by Ikon Solutions, which operates the Images office in Clements Hall.
Problems with equipment can be reported to the Hamon staff, or directly to the Ikon staff at (214) 768-4180.
Computers and Printing
A total of 20 computers are reserved for patrons doing library research.
These can be found on each floor, and all have access to the full range of SMU's online resources.
Other applications, such as word processing, are available only on selected computers
on the basement level. Printing of Internet documents is available at the first-floor Electronic Resource Center; a copy card is required to pay for print jobs.
For other print jobs, use the computer lab on the basement level.
Wireless Internet
The Hamon Library is set up for wireless web connectivity
throughout the building for use with wireless enabled laptops and other
devices. PerunaNet is the secured wireless net. It requires
configuration and an SMU ID. SMU1911 is the unsecured network, and
allows guest registration. visit

Carrels and Study Rooms
In addition to those in the Audiovisual Center, individual carrels and study rooms are available on the second and third floors.
They are assigned for one semester or two summer sessions, and must be requested using the appropriate application form.
Unassigned carrels (but not study rooms) may be used on a first-come, first-served basis.

A total of five group study rooms are available by
reservation to SMU faculty and staff. Three small rooms are equipped
with audiovisual playback equipment, and the two larger ones are furnished
with conference-style seating and white boards. To make a reservation,
call 214-768-3814.
Unless reserved, these rooms are available for two-hour use by SMU students;
check out a key at the Audiovisual Service Window or the Print Circulation
Desk.
Keyboard
An electronic keyboard instrument is located on the third floor for patron use.
It must be used with headphones, which can be checked out for two hours at the Print Circulation Desk.
Lockers
Lockers, located in the first-floor copy room, are available to SMU students, faculty, and staff.
These are assigned for one semester or two summer sessions. Request forms are available at the Print Circulation Desk.
Lost & Found
Lost personal items are kept for up to 30 days at the Print Circulation Desk.
Restrooms and Water Fountains
Restrooms and water fountains are located on each floor of the library.
