The Audiovisual study rooms (B230 and B240) provide a space for group study with multimedia capabilities, including: widescreen TVs; DVD, VCR, Laserdisc, and Bluray players; and turntables. Users may check out laptop adapters and media kits at the audiovisual service desk.
The Hamon Audiovisual Center is in the continuing process of digitizing concert and recital recordings already in the catalog so that users may listen online.
The Hamon Audiovisual Center currently contains almost 15,000 CDs, 15,000 LP records, and over 1,500 DVDs, as well as audio and videocassette tapes, laser discs, and microforms. The scope of the collection includes materials related to music, the visual and performing arts from Antiquity through the present day, and from both Western and international traditions.
For more information, please visit the Central University Libraries' circulation policies site.
The KIC overhead scanner is one of the most popular features of the Audiovisual Center due to its high resolution, ease of use, and ability to save images to a flash drive or email them to a personal account.
The Audiovisual Center contains microfilm and microfiche materials related to the visual and performing arts, including issues of Down Beat, the Music Manuscripts Collection of the British Library, Variety, and Art News.
In addition to the Audiovisual Center, SMU provides instructional technology service in the arts at the Multimedia Center, located in the Information Commons in Fondren Library.
