The Central University Libraries at Southern Methodist University are committed to providing accessibility to library materials, programs, and services to all users.

Library staff will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests from library users with disabilities. If your disability is not visible, please identify yourself as having a disability when you seek assistance.

Fondren Library Center Reference librarians have advanced training in the use of library resources and basic training in the use of assistive technology. Reference librarians are not trained in services to persons with disabilities. Please be sure to contact SMU's Services for Students with Disabilities at 214-768-4563 for support.

If your needs are not met by the services described below, please notify a staff member. We will examine, and if necessary, extend our policies and procedures to accommodate your needs.

Wheelchair Access to the Libraries

All Central University Libraries provide access for users with physical disabilities. The Fondren Library Center (map) has electrically controlled doors. Fondren West, which houses DeGolyer Library and the Norwick Center for Media and Instructional Technology (CMIT), has a ramp at the South door and an automatic door. Heroy Hall (map), in which the ISEM Reading Room is located, has a ramp at the South entrance (but no automatic door). Ramp access to the Hamon Arts Library (map) and Owen Arts Center is located at the Hillcrest Avenue entrance only.

Fondren Library Center has wheelchair access at seven public workstations. The Newspaper and Periodicals Reading Area also has workstations that are wheelchair accessible.
