Welcome to the Central University Libraries! Empowering the research, teaching and learning needs of SMU students, faculty and staff is our primary goal. We hope that you will enjoy your experience here - either literally in one of our libraries or virtually through the Internet - and that you find the resources and support you need.
This is a very exciting time for the SMU libraries! In 2013, as part of its Second Century Celebration, SMU will commemorate The Year of the Library ó the 100th anniversary of the hiring of SMUís first librarian, Miss Dorothy Amman, who began work in Dallas Hall in 1913. In addition to marking historic milestones, the commemoration will recognize plans to update and expand the campus libraries and open more of our priceless collections to the world.
Over the next several years, we will be engaged in a major renovation of the Fondren Library Center Complex. The next 18 months will be very busy hiring the architect, drawing up more detailed plans and developing a staging process. To see a tentative timeline, click here or to see detailed floor maps, please click here. The target date for project completion and the dedication of the facility is May of 2016. We are anxious to involve as many of our users in this process as possible, so please let me know if you are willing to be called upon. A User Group has been convened with 26 members representing all constituencies in the SMU family.
We welcome feedback from you, our users, at all times. Feel free to email me personally at firstname.lastname@example.org, or use any of our various online Ask-a-Librarian services. We also have a student forum that meets monthly during the semester for pizza and discusses ways to enhance the student library experience. If you are interested in joining the CUL Student Advisory Council, just drop me a line or give me a call. And if you are lonely for a human face, come and see me. My office is located on the third floor of Fondren Library East, room 300.
