BINDING PROCEDURE
FOR NOT ANALYZED SERIALS
Log on to Circulation.
On the menu:
· Click on ‘Function’ and choose ‘Item’, or
click on the stack of books icon, or type ‘Alt+U and I.
· Search.
·
"Search by item barcode" will appear on the screen as seen in Figure 1.
· Click on the magnifying glass to retrieve a
screen that will look like Figure 2.
· Search by ‘Journal Title’ or ‘ISSN(022a/y/z)’.
· Select the item record of the serial to be
bound
· Click ‘OK’ to retrieve Figure 3.
· Click on the graph icon.
If there is only one item to be bound:
· Highlight ‘At Bindery’ and click on the blue
‘up’ arrow.
If more than 1 item is bound together:
· Go to the menu bar and choose ‘Item’
· Select ‘Delete Item’ as shown in Figure 4 & Figure
5.
Repeat for all except the last item record for
that serial.
Go to the menu bar:
· Choose ‘Item’
· Select ‘Edit Item’ as shown in Figure 6.
· Click on the folder tab labeled
‘Holdings/Item’ as shown in Figure 7.
· Compress and edit the enumeration information
to include all the items that will be bound together. The barcode on this
item record will be the barcode for the bound volume.
· Click on folder tab marked ‘Item’ as shown in Figure 8.
· Edit ‘Spine’ information to include all issues
or volumes.
· Click ‘OK’.
· Click on ‘OK’ to retrieve Figure 9.
YOU ARE READY TO SEND VOLUMES TO THE BINDER!
THE BOUND BOOK RETURNS!
Log on to Circulation
On the menu:
· Click on ‘Function’ and choose ‘Item’, or
click on the stack of books icon, or type ‘Alt+U and I.
· Search.
·
"Search by item barcode" will appear on the screen.
· Click on the magnifying glass to retrieve a
screen that will look like Figure 2.
· Search by title or ISSN.
If no new barcode needs to be added to the
record and bound volume because you are using the last barcode on the last
issue which was bound or it is a single item which was bound:
· Highlight the first item record of the serials
that were bound.
· Click on the graph icon.
· Highlight ‘At Bindery’ and click on the red
‘down’ arrow.
· Click on ‘OK’.
If the item record is for a single item that is
bound, you have completed the process.
If it is necessary to add a new barcode because
the barcode was destroyed in binding or the item was never barcoded initially:
· Highlight the item record of the bound volume.
· Click on the graph icon.
· Highlight ‘At Bindery’ and click on the red
‘down’ arrow.
· Click on ‘OK’.
Go to the menu bar:
· Choose ‘Item’
· Select ‘Barcodes’ as shown in Figure 10.
· Click on ‘Add’ as shown in Figure 11.
· Insert the new barcode number as shown in Figure 12.
· Click on ‘OK’.
· The
old barcode will now be inactive.
· Click on ‘OK’ to complete this process.
If a new barcode is added on the end page, you
are done.
If you are using the barcode of that last issue
that was bound:
· Write in pencil in the location where the
barcode would be placed:
<-------------------------- Barcode
on all end pages to help circulation find the
buried barcode.
