008

Date1/Date 2: Use as required.

008

Place of Publication: Use as required.

008

Form of Composition: For 2 or more different genres/forms use mu (multiple) and list each genre in 047. Use uu (unknown) or zz (other) when applicable.

008

Format of Music: This code corresponds to the description in 300, 240, 245, and/or 5xx. For score and parts use a (score). For music for solo instrument use z (other).

008

Accompanying matter: Up to 6 codes in alphabetical order to describe accompanying materials such as bibliography, discography, biographical information, historical information, preface, etc.

008

Language: For spoken or sung texts only. For multiple languages put the dominant language in the fixed field and list the dominant and the other languages in the |a in 041. Disregard language(s) of accompanying material. For instrumental music put N/A in the fixed field and use the appropriate subfields in 041 for the language(s) of accompanying material.

020

International Standard Book Number: Use as required.

024

International Standard Music Number: 1st indicator 2. Include the initial M followed by the numbers.

028

Publisher/Plate Number: Publisher’s number (1st indicator 3) appears normally on the title page, cover and/or first page of music and it may include initials. Plate number (1st indicator 2) appears on each page and it may include initials. Transcribe a publisher’s number before a plate number. Use the 2nd indicator 0 and provide a 500 note when it needs explanation, for instances if: variant forms of a publisher/plate number appear; it is a reprint and the number is for the original publisher; a phrase precedes the number; there is a range of numbers.

041

Languages: Use this field when an item is multilingual, and/or has accompanying materials (preface, performance instructions, librettos) in different languages. The 1st indicator (translation) applies to sung or spoken texts only, not to accompanying materials. If printed music includes a translation of a vocal text, the 1st indicator must be 1. |a indicates the sung or spoken texts and must correspond to the language code in the fixed field. |h may be repeated immediately after any subfield |a, |e, |f, |g.

045

Time period of contents: Date(s) of composition, not publication. Use |b formatted date (|b dYYYY).

047

Form of musical composition: Use this field when an item includes multiple forms and the corresponding fixed field (form of composition) says mul. List each code in a separate |a, but do not include uu or zz. Use this field only if there are specific codes found in the list. If only one of multiple forms has a code, use the fixed field for this one form instead of 047.

048

Number of musical instruments or voices: Make separate 048 for each selection if the instrumentations are different. Use the instrument/voice code with a 2-digit number to indicate the number of parts in the repeatable |a. Use subfield |b for soloists (|b sa01 |a oa), but use |a for unaccompanied solo instrument/voice (|a sa01). If the medium is not explicitly stated, do not use this field. Use the codes for the instrumentation for the item in hand, even if the item is an arrangement.

050/090

LC classification number: Leave if available.

1XX

Main entries: Use as required.

240

Uniform title: Use in conjunction with 100. Make 240 even if the uniform title is same as the title proper. Supply |p (part), |s (formats), |k (selections), |l (languages), and/or |o (arrangement) when applicable.

245

Title proper and other title information: The 1st indicator must be 1 in the presence of 100 even when the title proper is generic. Use the title page as the chief source of information. If the title page is not available, use caption or cover (cover is made of a thicker, thinner or different color paper than that on which the music is printed). Do not use [GMD]. Treat medium of performance, number, date, etc. as part of title proper if the title is generic (|a Sonata no. 1, for flute and piano in F major). If the title is distinctive, treat medium of performance…etc. as other title information (|a Mad cows : |b for string quartet in E major : (2000)). Transcribe only the English parallel title when there are multiple parallel titles.

245

Statement of responsibility: Transcribe only the language of the title proper. Include any statement that implies statement of responsibility, even if the statement does not mention any personal names. "Klavierazug" and "vocal score" imply that the original work has been arranged (|c Mozart ; Klavierazug.). Do not repeat these statements, however, if the name(s) of the arranger is mentioned in the statement of responsibility area (|c Mozart ; vocal score by Smith. Not |c Mozart ; vocal score ; vocal score by Smith).

246

Variant title: Do not make 246 for |b parallel titles. When the item lacks a collective title use this field only for the title proper (|a). Use 740 for other distinctive titles subsequent to the title proper.

250

Edition: Use this field to designate vocal ranges (For high voice) that are not grammatically linked to the title and statement of responsibility. Do not use this field for musical statement, personal responsibility statement (Marcel Moyse Edition), or name of the publisher (Edition Peters).

254

Musical statement: Use this field only if it is found on the title page. Otherwise use 500. Musical statement describes the physical presentation of a music score (full score, Studienpartitur). Do not use this field for arrangement (vocal score) or edition statement. If the statement appears in 2 or more languages use only the first statement. If the musical statement is grammatically linked to the title, other title, etc., do not repeat it here.

260

Publication, distribution, publication date: Use as required.

300

Give pagination of the part if there is only one part (1 score (viii, 45 p.) + 1 part (5 p.) ; 1 score (x, 23 p.) + 2 parts). If music is for solo instrument, use "p. of music" even if it is for a keyboard instrument with multiple staves.

306

4xx

Series: Use as required.

500

Form of composition and medium of performance: Record as necessary when the form and medium are not clear from the title proper. Do not supply the medium if it is implied by the title proper (i.e. Symphony). If an implied title is used for instrument(s) other than the implied instrument(s), record the instrumentation in this field (245 10 Symphony. 500 __ For piano quartet). If a work is an arrangement, record both original and new instrumentations (For flute and orchestra; acc. arr. for piano).

546

500

Source of title proper: Use when applicable.

500

Statement of responsibility: Use when applicable to supply name(s) of librettist, lyricist, arranger, etc. (Based on: Paradise lost / John Milton. ; Previously attributed to Handel). If there are numerous librettists, lyricists, etc. for a collection, use 505 instead to list statement of responsibility.

500

Edition and history: Information on reprint, composition year, and/or the primary source(s) (Edited from the ms. in the Bibliothèque nationale, Paris (MS 1003).

500

Durations: Use a separate 500 for duration if an item lacks a collective title or an item has only one work. Separate hour, minute, and second by colons (18:00; 23:12 not 18 min.; 23 min. 12 sec.). If individual works are listed in 505, give duration for each work there.

500

Accompanying materials: Information on the program notes, libretto, preface, critical commentary. Name the author(s) of the accompanying materials and give them added entries, if they are considered important (Pref. and critical commentary by Christoph Wolff in German and English).

504

Bibliographical references: Use this field if a score includes bibliographical references such as footnotes, even if there is not a separate page of bibliography or discography per se.

505

Contents: Give title proper, other title information, and statement of responsibility when an item consists of several works and if they are not already included in 245. If an item has a collective title and each work is included in 505, put durations in 505.

500

Publisher/plate number: Give publisher’s number and/or plate number if 028 is not sufficient (028 with the 2nd indicator 0).

500

Standard Numbers: Use 020 for ISBN and 024 for ISMN.

650

Subject headings: Provide subject heading(s) for each work but do not repeat the same subject heading(s). Qualify by medium of performance when needed. Supply free floating subject heading such as Arranged (Piano music, Arranged), |v Scores, |v Scores and parts as necessary.

600
