AUTHORITY RECORDS
Displaying Authority Records From the Bib Record:
With the bib record displayed on the screen:
-

-
Click: Retrieve Authorities
-
If the series authority record is in the list, select it. Press OK to display
the record.
-
Verify the fields of the authority record according to the Cataloging
Procedure Manual
Searching for Series Authority Records Using the Index Searches
-
If the series authority record is not in the list, search for it using
the: staff title headings search (440 & 830); or the staff name/title
headings search (800, 810, 811)
-
If a search of the database does not retrieve the matching authority record,
search OCLC and import the record. Code fields 642, 644-646 according to
the Cataloging Procedure manual.
-
If the record is not in OCLC, put the book on the series shelf for the
cataloger. Write on a post it note, NO AUTH and your name.
Before overlaying a series authority record, compare fields 642,
643, 644, 645 and 646 on the Voyager authority record with the OCLC
authority record to determine if CUL has given a different treatment to
these fields. If our treatment is different from the OCLC authority record,
copy the fields from the Voyager record into the newly imported authority
record before saving it to the database.
